"Consistency is the key to success"
An initial consultation consists of an introductory meeting with Dave to help both the client and trainer be on the same page regarding health history, exercise history, and fitness goals. Dave will explain the plan of action with the client that will primarily be safe, and also be enjoyable and effective. This will be a pleasant environment where the client can talk about anything regarding fitness.
After there is an agreement with the plan of action, it is time to start! An initial analysis of body measurements is conducted, this may include (different for everyone):
The final part will be a fitness evaluation workout using functional exercises that replicate everyday movements. This evaluation will give us information and insight on how to build a fitness program best for each client. This will also give a fitness baseline where we will build on.
Resistance or weight training is overall beneficial for every body system such as neuromuscular, cardiovascular, hormonal, & etc. It is essential for every individual varying in age, weight, and goals. With age, there is a risk of loss of bone strength (osteopenia) and muscle (sarcopenia), but these processes can be slowed down with weight training.
Lifting a heavy amount of weight every session is not the best way to improve overall fitness. When programmed correctly there can be gradual improvement without the risk of overuse injury that can be caused by not enough recovery.
It is important to do cardiovascular training as it improves the function of the heart, blood vessels, and lungs. Importantly, it reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In addition, this type of training helps with weight loss, immune system strength, and brain health.
There are a lot of ways to train the cardiovascular system. At Dave's Studio, there is up to date equipment such as the ski-erg, Concept O2 Rower, Peloton Bike, WattBike, treadmills, stairclimbers, & etc.
With every program, there is also a focus on flexibility, balance, core training, reactive training, and speed/agility quickness. This will lead to improvement of everyday mobility, posture, quality of sleep, and lower the risk of falling.
Dave began rowing in 2019, and since then has competed and won several medals. With the help of his coach, Eddie Fletcher, he has now begun to teach clients how to grow. Eddie Fletcher is a Sports Scientist in the UK and has trained several athletes who won medals in Indoor Rowing Championships. This program starts with Dave teaching the correct form which takes a bit of time for the body to adapt. Rowing is done horizontally, so the stress on the body is minimal.
Once Dave believes the client is ready, a sub-maximal test will be performed to give information on one's fitness level. Eddie will use this information to construct a program that will be individualized for each client.
Information will be looked at after each session, and after each program, a new program will be created using the information from the last. Each program lasts about a month.
